On this day, in the year 1742...Had considerable assistance. In the evening I withdrew, and enjoyed a happy season in secret prayer. God was pleased to give me the exercise of faith, and thereby brought the invisible and eternal world near to my soul; which appeared sweetly to me. I hoped that my weary pilgrimage in the world would be short; and that it would not be long before I should be brought to my heavenly home and Father's house. I was resigned to God's will, to tarry his time, to do his work, and suffer his pleasure. I felt thankfulness to God for all my pressing desertions of late; for I am persuaded that they have been made a means of making me more humble, and much more resigned. I felt pleased to be little, to be nothing, and to lie in the dust. I enjoyed life and consolation in pleading for the dear children of God, and the kingdom of Christ in the world: and my soul earnestly breathed after holiness, and the enjoyment of God. O come, Lord Jesus, come quickly.

Mark Cahill's Monthly NewsI find that one of the most intriguing things I can do when I witness to people is to find out their belief systems: what they believe and why they believe it. So I am always trying to keep my eyes and ears open to find things that can lead me a certain direction in a conversation, or to find a way to get into a conversation....

HaggaiBeing 37 years old, I decided to summarize the 37th book of the Bible. In the year 520 B.C., the prophet Haggai had several words from the Lord.
In the first word from God, the governor and the high priest over Judah were commanded to build the house of God. They were also told twice to consider their ways. The astounding result was that they obeyed!
In the second word from God, the residue of the people were instructed to be strong and fear not for God was with them. Additionally, they were reminded that the silver and gold are God's.
The third word was given to Haggai to remind the priests that their works are unclean. In spite of this, God promises to bless them. Again we see that the priests were admonished to "consider" no less than three times. They were smitten by the Lord yet would not turn.
The fourth word of the Lord was delivered by the prophet foretelling the destruction of the heathen as well as the choosing of a nation by God. This was the second time we see the shaking of heaven and earth prophesied in the book of Haggai.
As we leave our comfort zones and step out into the waters of personal evangelism, let us learn the following valuable lessons from the 37th book of the Bible. Whether it be our motives, thought life, habits, works, feelings, or words, let us "Consider [our] ways." From prayer, holiness, evangelism, to hiding God's word in our hearts, let it be said of us, that we "obeyed the voice of the LORD [our] God." As we perceive the possibility of being pummeled by the people, let us remember the words of the LORD of hosts, "fear ye not" for "I am with you." As we squirm at the cost of reaching out to the lost, let us hear the word of the LORD, "the silver is mine, and the gold is mine."

Ray Comfort's Monthly ColumnI was having a tough time. I couldn't draw a crowd. In fact, I couldn't draw a thing. That's why I had photocopied a picture of John Wayne onto a large piece of paper and was coloring it in with paints. I couldn't figure it out. When my friends used a sketch board while speaking in public, at least a few people gathered. This day, no one bothered to give me a second look. I was planning to color in the picture and speak about how John Wayne lived and died as portrayed by Hollywood, and how he lived and died in real life. Death was no problem to the Duke; it was commonplace in the westerns in which he starred. So when it came to real life, one would think it wouldn't have bothered him too much. Naturally, it did. He called for Billy Graham to come to his bedside as he lay dying of cancer. The fact is, there's a Hollywood world, and then there's a real world. It is one thing to go out in a blaze of glory in a cowboy movie, but it's another thing to fade away under the merciless hand of a terminal disease. Anyway, there was no point in having a good illustration when there was no one to hear it....

The Voice of the MartyrsOn June 28, Hemanta Das, a Christian convert from Hinduism to Christianity, was brutally beaten by suspected members of a religious fanatic group. Das, a former member of the Hindutva fanatic group known as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, died four days later in a local hospital. The Council of Baptist Churches in Northeast India has declared Brother Das the first Assamese martyr. Das was a member of the Guwahati Baptist Church. The Voice of the Martyrs' contacts in India report, "On several occasions, Brother Das was cautioned by radical groups of the dire consequences that would follow if he tried to convert people to Christianity." Christian leaders in Assam state say that this murder case has been reported to local police, but police have not yet found those responsible. Pray for the family of Brother Das and for the Holy Spirit to convict those responsible for this attack. Ask God to protect and encourage Christians in India. John 14:27, Colossians 3:15
