  Sagacious Thoughts

Verse of the Day

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” - Galatians 3:10
Quote of the Day

“Those who try to keep the Law are usually ignorant of its holy demands. It requires perfection in thought, word, and deed. The proclamation of the spiritual nature of the Law (that God requires truth in the inward parts) strips a sinner of self-righteousness.” - Ray Comfort

On this day, in the year 1744...
"In the morning, felt exceeding dead to the world, and all its enjoyments. I thought I was ready and willing to give up life and all its comforts, as soon as called to it; and yet then had as much comfort of life as almost ever I had. I longed to be perpetually and entirely crucified to all things here below, by the cross of Christ. My soul was sweetly resigned to God's disposal of me, in every regard; and I saw that nothing had happened but what was best for me. I confided in God, that he would never leave me, though I should "walk through the valley of the shadow of death." It was then my meat and drink to be holy, to live to the Lord, and die to the Lord. And I thought that I then enjoyed such a heaven as far exceeded the most sublime conceptions of an unregenerate soul; and even unspeakably beyond what I myself could conceive of at another time. I did not wonder that Peter said, "Lord, it is good to be here," when thus refreshed with divine glories. My soul was full of love and tenderness in the duty of intercession; especially felt a most sweet affection to some precious godly ministers, of my acquaintance. Prayed earnestly for dear Christians, and for those I have reason to fear are my enemies; and could not have spoken a word of bitterness, or entertained a bitter thought, against the vilest man living. Had a sense of my own great unworthiness. My soul seemed to breathe forth love and praise to God afresh, when I thought he would let his children love and receive me as one of their brethren and fellow citizens. When I thought of their treating me in that manner, I longed to lie at their feet; and could think of no way to express the sincerity and simplicity of my love and esteem of them, as being much better than myself."

Mark Cahill's Monthly News
As many of you know, Judas Iscariot is one of the most fascinating characters in the Bible. There are so many questions that I wish I could have asked him at the time he walked with Jesus....One of the things about Judas is that he carried the money bag. Jesus entrusted him with it, so more than likely, many times during his time as a Disciple, Jesus would instruct him to take money from the bag and bless the poor....

HaggaiHaggai
Being 37 years old, I decided to summarize the 37th book of the Bible. In the year 520 B.C., the prophet Haggai had several words from the Lord.

In the first word from God, the governor and the high priest over Judah were commanded to build the house of God. They were also told twice to consider their ways. The astounding result was that they obeyed!

In the second word from God, the residue of the people were instructed to be strong and fear not for God was with them. Additionally, they were reminded that the silver and gold are God's.

The third word was given to Haggai to remind the priests that their works are unclean. In spite of this, God promises to bless them. Again we see that the priests were admonished to "consider" no less than three times. They were smitten by the Lord yet would not turn.

The fourth word of the Lord was delivered by the prophet foretelling the destruction of the heathen as well as the choosing of a nation by God. This was the second time we see the shaking of heaven and earth prophesied in the book of Haggai.

As we leave our comfort zones and step out into the waters of personal evangelism, let us learn the following valuable lessons from the 37th book of the Bible. Whether it be our motives, thought life, habits, works, feelings, or words, let us "Consider [our] ways." From prayer, holiness, evangelism, to hiding God's word in our hearts, let it be said of us, that we "obeyed the voice of the LORD [our] God." As we perceive the possibility of being pummeled by the people, let us remember the words of the LORD of hosts, "fear ye not" for "I am with you." As we squirm at the cost of reaching out to the lost, let us hear the word of the LORD, "the silver is mine, and the gold is mine."
