On this day, in the year 1744..."My soul felt and tasted that the Lord is gracious; that he is the supreme good, the only soul-satisfying happiness; that he is a complete, sufficient, and almighty portion. The language of my heart was, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." Oh!, I feel that it is heaven to please him, and to be just what he would have me to be! Oh! that my soul were "holy, as he is holy!" Oh! that it were "pure, even as Christ is pure;" and "perfect, as my Father in heaven is Perfect!" These I feel are the sweetest commands in God's book, comprising all others. And shall I break them! must I break them! and I under the necessity of it as long as I live in the world! Oh! my soul, woe, woe, is me, that I am a sinner, who continually grieve and offend this blessed God, infinite in goodness and grace! Oh! methinks if he would punish me for my sins, it would not wound my heart so deep to offend him; but though I sin continually, yet he continually repeats his kindness to me! Oh! methinks I could bear any sufferings; but how can I bear to grieve and dishonor this blessed God! How shall I yield ten thousand times more honor to him? What shall I do to glorify and worship this best of things? Oh! that I could consecrate myself, soul and body, to his service for ever! Oh! that I could give up myself to him, so as never more to attempt to be my own, or to have any will or affections that are not perfectly conformed to him! But, alas! I find I cannot be thus entirely devoted to God; I cannot live, and not sin. Oh! ye angels, do ye glorify Him incessantly; and if possible, prostrate yourselves lower before the blessed King of heaven! I long to bear a part with you; and, if it were possible, to help you. Oh! when we have done all that we can, to all eternity, we shall not be able to offer the ten thousandth part of the homage which the glorious God deserves!"

Mark Cahill's Monthly NewsThis being the first newsletter of 2010, I do hope it will be both encouraging and challenging to you. New Year's resolutions usually don't work, but commitments and covenants usually do. My challenge to you this year is for you to read your Bible front to back in 2010. All the way from Genesis to Revelation. Reading three and a half chapters a day, you will be able to accomplish that task this year. Fifteen to twenty minutes a day is all that is required....

HaggaiBeing 37 years old, I decided to summarize the 37th book of the Bible. In the year 520 B.C., the prophet Haggai had several words from the Lord.
In the first word from God, the governor and the high priest over Judah were commanded to build the house of God. They were also told twice to consider their ways. The astounding result was that they obeyed!
In the second word from God, the residue of the people were instructed to be strong and fear not for God was with them. Additionally, they were reminded that the silver and gold are God's.
The third word was given to Haggai to remind the priests that their works are unclean. In spite of this, God promises to bless them. Again we see that the priests were admonished to "consider" no less than three times. They were smitten by the Lord yet would not turn.
The fourth word of the Lord was delivered by the prophet foretelling the destruction of the heathen as well as the choosing of a nation by God. This was the second time we see the shaking of heaven and earth prophesied in the book of Haggai.
As we leave our comfort zones and step out into the waters of personal evangelism, let us learn the following valuable lessons from the 37th book of the Bible. Whether it be our motives, thought life, habits, works, feelings, or words, let us "Consider [our] ways." From prayer, holiness, evangelism, to hiding God's word in our hearts, let it be said of us, that we "obeyed the voice of the LORD [our] God." As we perceive the possibility of being pummeled by the people, let us remember the words of the LORD of hosts, "fear ye not" for "I am with you." As we squirm at the cost of reaching out to the lost, let us hear the word of the LORD, "the silver is mine, and the gold is mine."
