Once We Roamed In Sin And Blindness

Once we roamed in sin and blindness,
    Lost, bewildered and afraid.
Yet the Lord of love and kindness
    Sought and found each soul that strayed.
In the spirit of contrition,
    They, by rue, were rent and torn
From the perils of perdition,
    Saved, forgiven and reborn.

Jesus banished sin and evil
    Through the virtue of His grace.
Long had we endured the devil;
    Christ now occupies his place.
Since the curse of condemnation
    Has no claim upon the soul,
We have bowed in adoration,
    For our faith has made us whole.

Walls of nations crack and crumble,
    Weakened by intrigues within,
Like the hardened hearts that stumble
    When distressed by guilt and sin.
Lest your spirit's zeal should dwindle,
    When engaged in His employ,
Keep the faith and let it kindle
    Embers of eternal joy.
