The Bible
I have enjoyed reading through the entire bible once a year for the past several years. Beginning the year 2010, I have been using Professor Horner's Bible Reading System. For those interested, you can download a customizable monthly bookmark to keep track of your daily readings. Why the King James Version?
Hollywood Be Thy Name by Ray Comfort "Have you ever stopped to consider much of the history of Hollywood? What about the ideas and beliefs that shape Hollywood? The ideas and philosophies and thinking about faith that trickle down to our common culture via Hollywood are influential indeed, although most people would deny just how much of an impact Hollywood actually has upon their individual views. The impact is so powerful that you may not have even realized just how much Hollywood and its proponents have shaped your own view of the world." -Angela J. Zaev
Bonhoeffer - Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas Download the audiobook here. "After discovering the fire of true faith in a Harlem church, Bonhoeffer returned to Germany and became one of the first to speak out against Hitler. As a double agent, he joined the plot to assassinate the F?hrer and was hanged in Flossenb?rg concentration camp at age thirty-nine. Since his death, Bonhoeffer has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the twentieth century." -Christian Audio
In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood by Walt Brown Read the entire book online. "Walt Brown?s book is the rarest of species: It is the most complete reference work I have encountered on the scientific aspects of the multifaceted subject of origins." -Dr. Stuart Patterson
Hazardous Materials by G.A. Riplinger Read chapter 1, chapter 7, chapter 20, or chapter 31. What a breath of fresh air! While other books make it part of their aim to correct God's perfect and preserved Word, Hazardous Materials gives its readers a confidence in the Bible. It seems that just about every spiritual discipline is affected(reading, praying, witnessing, memorizing, etc.). I can hardly put in words the effect this author's books have had on my spiritual growth.
Word of the Day
I think games like Scrabble, Balderdash, and other word games are fun. So, I really enjoy increasing my vocabulary, or at least the ability to recognize and understand more of the English language. I especially enjoy Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day because I can listen to the podcast directly from the RSS feed.

Fox's Book of Martyrs
This is a book that will never die - one of the great English classics. . . . It has been reprinted here in its most complete form.

"After the Bible itself, no book so profoundly influenced early Protestant sentiment as the Book of Martyrs. Even in our time it is still a living force. It is more than a record of persecution. It is an arsenal of controversy, a storehouse of romance, as well as a source of edification."
Hell's Best Kept Secret
Learn why so many of those making professions of faith are turning away. It is vital that we return to Biblical evangelism. Read Chapter 1. Find out why this is my fourth time reading through the book since the beginning of last year.
Erasing Hell by Francis Chan & Preston Sprinkle
Download the audiobook here. "With a humble respect for God?s Word, Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle address the deepest questions you have about eternal destiny. They?ve asked the same questions. Like you, sometimes they just don?t want to believe in hell. But, as they write, ?We cannot afford to be wrong on this issue.? This is not a book about who is saying what. It?s a book about what God says." -Christian Audio
How to win Souls and Influence People by Ray Comfort
Read a sample chapter. "I've read just about everything Ray's written, and this book is my far and above favorite! It's extremely practical, giving hundreds of real life examples. Every time I read it, I get re-convicted, re-energized and re-inspired to get out there and share my faith." -Anna Jackson (CA)
The World's Greatest Preachers by Ray Comfort
See sample chapters below. "In this work, Comfort and Cameron, bring honor posthumously to the greatest oral preachers of the 19th Century, and leave their imposing voices thundering in our hearts and minds. The sermon by George Whitefield (pronounced Whitfield) 'The Lord Our Righteousness' is the cornerstone of this volume, and I too accept it to be the greatest sermon ever preached.... Edwards, Torrey, Spurgeon, Wesley, all weigh in and bring the importance of the Law in convincing sinners by way of their conscience, to bear on Christians. A beautiful and gracious book." -J. Schoeman (S.A.)
One Thing You Can?t Do in Heaven by Mark Cahill
Every follower of Christ is called to tell others the most joyful news ever announced. Mark Cahill obviously takes our Lord and Savior's Great Commission very seriously. One Thing You Can't Do In Heaven is filled with fascinating accounts, practical tips, and sobering wisdom on evangelism. May God bless the distribution of this book. -Dr. Bill Bright (Campus Crusade for Christ)
God Doesn't Believe in Atheists by Ray Comfort
Read a sample chapter. "Those who profess atheism are themselves followers of a religion: the religion of secular humanism, and therefore an active assertion in denying God. Thus, all worldviews are religious worldviews. Comfort speaks lovingly, yet with fire. His logic is superb and he appeals to common sense, reason and the human conscience. This is the book that had American Atheists national spokesman Ron Barrier running scared. I highly recommend it as an apologetic to give to unsaved persons, or for Christians who want to know how to witness to atheists more effectively." -Nick (NV)
Thanks a Million! by Ray Comfort
"If you want to share your faith but don't know how, this is a great book, reading like a collection of case studies (or real-life examples) of how to actually do it, most in simple everyday scenarios, such as witnessing to people you meet at work, around your street, service workers that come to your house, colleagues, etc." -Zoran V. Zaev (VA)
Spurgeon Gold by Charles Spurgeon
"A delightful compilation of the best representatives of Spurgeon's wisdom and expositions of how to use God's Law (Ten Commandments) in evangelism.... Spurgeon was such an inspired rhetorist, gifted with an incomparably rich vocabulary that demands little or no explanation, which is a testament to Spurgeon's ability to preach to all levels of human intellect." -J. Green (MN)
One Heartbeat Away Your Journey Into Eternity by Mark Cahill
Read chapter 1. "In Mark Cahill's book, One Heartbeat Away Your Journey Into Eternity, Mark addresses the questions and objections of an unbeliever using logic and convincing evidence from experts along with scripture to lead them to their own personal decision on eternity. This book is my favorite book because it made me stop and think about creation, hell, and most importantly my eternal destiny." -Mongolian Exchange Student
How to Know God Exists by Ray Comfort
Read an excerpt. "Excellent book. I encourage you to be reasonable and have a facts-based faith. We Christians don't have a blind faith!" -Oscar Centeno Rivera
C. H. Spurgeon Autobiography: The Early Years, 1834-1859 by Charles Spurgeon
Read the entire book online. "Spurgeon was called "The Prince of Preachers" for his fantastic oratorical skill and his incredible fidelity to the gospel-both of these elements come through vividly in this autobiography. Spurgeon's gift for words is evident, as he writes extremely well; and his obvious passion for gospel preaching and the glory of God is challenging and inspiring. Definitely worth the read." -FJC "Flynn" (DC)
Still Growing by Kirk Cameron
"I think that Kirk has done a great job in getting the gospel of Jesus Christ more into the mainstream. His book pulls no punches with it. He does not sugar coat it. He tells it like it is. Overall, Kirk has written an informative book, with humor and grace." -Ammerk (TX)
Take Up the Shield by Tony Miano
"I have watched Chaplain Tony Miano compassionately reach out and touch hearts in the field. In this book, he does the same with his inspirational message, delivered with honesty, humility, and a sense of humor." -Captain Carl Deeley (Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department)
Biblical Basis for Modern Science by Henry Morris
This is the most complete and authoritative reference book available on science and the Bible, with each chapter dealing with one of the key sciences in relation to Scripture, in addition to separate chapters on theology, cosmology, miracles, and Biblical creationism.
The Evolution Handbook by Vance Ferrell
Formerly, "The Evolution Cruncher", read the entire book online. "The greatest thing about this book is its complete coverage. It can save you a lot of money in obtaining comprehensive data on evolutionary theory, and how to reply to it. The definitive work on the subject, it answers every basic theory; yet it is remarkably easy to read." -Dr. Peter S. Ruckman
New Age Bible Versions by G.A. Riplinger
Read a sample chapter. "We were diehard NIV users for years, but this book convinced us otherwise." -Mary Pride, Practical Homeschooling
The Chronology of the Old Testament by Floyd Jones
The Chronology of the Old Testament has one goal to accomplish: to demonstrate "that every chronological statement contained in the Sacred Writ is consistent with all other chronological statements contained therein." The author carefully and thoroughly investigates the chronological and mathematical facts of the Old Testament, proving them to be accurate and reliable. This biblically sound, scholarly, and easy-to-understand book will enlighten and astound its readers with solutions and alternatives to many questions Bible scholars have had over the centuries.
Which Version is the Bible? by Floyd Jones
Download and read the entire 1999 PDF version online. "Being a Sunday School teacher, I was greatly blessed by reading this book as it settled the issue for me. Now I can study the Word with confidence, not having to constantly second guess whether the rendering of any particular version is correct." -Poul deGier (Canada)
Ripped Out of the Bible by Floyd Jones
Download and read the entire 1998 PDF version online. "...for the past 100 years, the world of scholarship has been dominated by the view that this majority text is a secondary and inferior text. Scholars have rejected that we have had the true text of the originals all along and have thus attempted to reconstruct the original text of the N.T. on the basis of the few early manuscripts. But as these copies differ considerably among themselves, the result has been an eclectic "patchwork quilt". The editors of the dominant eclectic Greek text of today have usually followed a single Greek MSS and in dozens of places they have printed a text not found in any known Greek copy! The discrepancy between this eclectic text and the majority reading is about 8%. That would amount to 48 full pages of discrepancies in a 600 page text. Around 1/5 of that represents omissions in the "minority text" such that it is about 10 pages shorter than the majority text. Nearly all modern versions of the Bible are based on this "minority text" whereas the King James is based on an identical twin brother of the "majority text". This is why so many verses, phrases, etc. familiar to users of the KJB are missing in the modern versions. The question is which of these two Greek texts is the Word of God?" -Author's Description
The Remarkable Journey of Jonah by Henry M. Morris
"Henry covers the history and background of the scriptures and provides a new insight into the sailors of Tarnish. Henry also provides a number of new perspectives and corollaries between Jesus and Jonah's perils." -Alan Meyer (CA)
The Hidden History of the English Scriptures by Gail Riplinger
The year 2011 commemorates the 400th anniversary of our beloved King James Bible, published in 1611. To honour this momentous event, Dr. Riplinger has put together THE definitive treatise on our English Bible, one which every English-speaking Christian should have. What one needs to know is distilled into this one book. Having been asked every question imaginable, Dr. Riplinger arms you with the answers. The most important facts and solid-gold historic quotes are packed rock-solid in this dynamite seventy-two page volume." -Author's Web Site
The Pastor's Wife by Sabina Wurmbrand
"Incredible witness to me of how God takes care of us - leads us - strengthens us - when all seems lost, all hope gone - He opens a way. This is my third time through the book in the past year and a half - each time I am taught something new about myself and my relationship with God - I am encouraged and challanged and of course have fallen in love with my brothers and sisters who suffer for Christ...I have notes and scripture written in the margines and in the front and back of the book." -Maxine F. (AZ)
Tortured for Christ by Richard Wurmbrand
"Back in my preteen years, I first read Pastor Richard Wurmbrand's book Tortured For Christ. It had a big influence on how I viewed religious freedom in Soviet bloc countries. Wurmbrand wrote this book after his release from Romanian prisons in 1964, and he did so to share the story of how the underground churches in Communist countries have to operate in order to spread the Word and their faith." -Thomas Duff (OR)
God's Missiles Over Cuba by Tom White
Imprisoned for 17 months, Tom White survived to tell the thrilling story of God's suffering church behind the Sugar Cane Curtain. In the 1970's, the threat of missiles from Fidel Castro's Cuba was one of America's great fears. Castro's fear is of another kind of missiles. For seven years, Tom White led a massive gospel invasion of Cuba to bring the peace of God to this downtrodden island in the Caribbean. More than 400,000 pieces of Christian literature - missiles of love - were either dropped from the sky or carried ashore by the sea. -[back cover]
Into the Den of Infidels by Solomon Valley Books
"What happens to a Muslim when they start asking questions of their religion? Through the form of personal letters and short stories the author of "Into the Den of Infidels" portrays how Muslims convert to followers of Christ. Each of the stories show how the Muslim convert sheds their religion and gains a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal savior. It also shows how the Muslim "religion of peace" then persecutes the convert and their families. Usually this will happen through beatings. If you want to better understand Muslim thought and culture especially how it relates to other religions then this is the book for you." -JC2IT (OR)
Hearts of Fire by The Voice of the Martyrs
"My prayer life, even for the persecuted church had become less firey, but this little book was explosive in my heart and my prayer life for these women, all women, all believers whom are persecuted has been rekindled and ignited, and I rejoice at the privilege to share in their lives through prayer. No person with a beating heart can read this and not be affected and changed." -Tricia Pyles (OH)
Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot
"This book is focused on God and on what came from the murder of five of His servants. I wept while reading this book. It changed my view of serving God and it will certainly challenge yours!" -Spencer C. LeDoux (TX)
God's Outlaw: The Story of William Tyndale and the English Bible by Brian Edwards
"This is an excellent, well-written and compelling book, and I learned so much reading it. I couldn't wait to read it, and was not disappointed." -Linda Verhoff (OH)
Money, Possessions & Eternity by Randy Alcorn
Read a sample chapter. I started reading this book with the intent of learning more about the errors of prosperity theology. This subject fascinates me since I was fully committed to the Word of Faith for twelve plus years soon after I was born again. This book does a great job showing the obvious errors of theology and emphasis found in their aberrant teachings. However, there is more in this book than pointing out grave error. In fact, the book has begun to make me feel uncomfortable. If you have read the book, you understand. The book not only teaches, but it calls. It teaches of what the bible says about money and possessions in the light of eternity. It also calls believers to a new mindset, a different focus, a change in our standards. Please pray that I will submit to God's will in this area of finances.
Rapture Under Attack by Tim LaHaye
Read an excerpt. "If you want to know and understand the book of Revelation to a greater degree, and you want to know what will happen when Jesus comes for his bride(the church), then this is the book for you. Tim Lahaye helps to explain God's near-future plan!" -Amazon Reviewer (MA)
Running Against The Wind by Brian Flynn
"A needed message in our churches today made even more powerful and credible because of Brian's background." -Joyce Harley, Radio Talk Show Host/Producer Minneapolis (MN)
The Strong Family by Charles Swindoll
We received this book as a wedding gift several years ago. When I give someone a book, it is only because it has had a dramatic impact on my life. This was enough of a reason to start reading it, even though I have no knowledge of the author. The lessons learned thus far have been valuable and the book is a very interesting read. I can usually overlook an authors temptation to use Greek and Hebrew to display his or her intellect when used sparingly. However, this book bombards the reader with attempts to correct God's perfect and preserved word. In effect, this book is systematically disassembling the reader's faith in the word of God. If we need to rely more and more on man for his modern interpretation of the word of God, we will no longer have 100% confidence that what we have on our shelves is the word of God. This will have the effects of losing interest in reading the word of God, much less memorizing it. I have already thrown out one book that was starting to do this, however I am desparately trying to learn to eat the meat and spit out the bones. But I wrestle with the potential of losing trust in Gods Word. Is it worth the few nuggets of man's wisdom? Can I not find the same principles in the Bible itself? Are there other authors I can read from who respect and reverence God's Word?
The Post-Trib, Pre-Wrath Rapture by Roland Rasmussen
"This is the greatest single book on eschatological theory I have ever read. Before reading this book, I knew that there were serious problems with the Pre-Trib theory, but I thought the case for Post-Trib was even worse. I believed it was impossible to be certain about the position of the Rapture because of ambiguities in key texts. Yet I believed that Mid-Trib was (by far) the scholar's best bet. I was firmly Mid-Trib in my perspective, and I didn't think anyone ever going to be able to shake me on this topic. Roland Rassmusen utterly demolished my perspective on this topic. I believe that Rassumusen conclusively proved his case for the Post-Trib Rapture in this book. While I hate the implications of this case as much as the next man, I must tell you that there can be no reply to it. The evidence is devastating. It's pretty much an open and shut case." -David Leon (CA)
Personality Plus by Florence Littauer
Read an excerpt. "PERSONALITY PLUS is one of the most enlightening books that I have ever read. Florence Littauer shows how to determine what type of temperament you fall into: Popular Sanguine, Powerful Choleric, Perfect Melancholy, or Peaceful Phlegmatic. Understanding that, we are then shown the strengths and weaknesses that accompany each of them. Littauer then teaches, gently and humorously, how we can improve ourselves and our relationships by simply recognizing and accepting the temperaments (in ourselves and others)." -Michael Janke (CA)
Adopted for Life by Russell D. Moore
Download the audiobook here. "Moore's authenticity is important as he calls for all Christians to be more involved in the adoption process. Listening to this book was a persuasive joy and has moved my family to seriously consider our involvement in the adoption process." -T.D. ? AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
